Just Play! Video Series

If sports are 90% mental and 10% physical, then why do we spend the majority of our time training physical skills?

This 16-week mental training series is the perfect tool for coaches to engage their athletes, encouraging them to get their mind right so as to keep their game tight!

(NOTE: This video series includes an accompanying journal in digital form - a .pdf file. If you would like a hard copy of the journal, check out our Just Play! bundle.)

16 Weeks of Thought-Provoking Mental Lessons to Guide Your Athletic Team’s Mindset Training Program

What percentage of your practice time is focused on individual & team drills?
…game planning? …film study? …physical fitness?

Now, how much time is spent training ...THE MIND?
A player’s mental approach is perhaps the greatest contributor to in-game success, yet we spend very little time on mental training. Coaches typically gloss over it citing a lack of training tools …until now.
Former MLB Player Brent Lillibridge and Author and Peak Performance Coach Collin Henderson collaborate to bring you a fresh approach to team practices.  Practice time is valuable. Don’t just go through the motions.  Whether you coach on the diamond, court, field, pitch, or pool, encourage your players to get their mind right by kicking practice off with a simple, 3-step mindset training session:

The Teaching Process

  1. Share an animated video featuring a captivating story that introduces the topic of the day’s mindset lesson.
  2. Lead an engaging team discussion based on simple talking points provided in your Coaches Guide.
  3. Encourage accountability as players quickly track goals and lesson comprehension in their Players Journal.

JUST 10 MINUTES OF MINDSET TRAINING to start each week promises practices filled with like-minded, confident, and focused players!

Lesson Video Descriptions

  1. Willie's Worrisome Warm-Up (Play vs. Pressure): Willie is nervous as he takes the mound, but his catcher reminds him that baseball is just a game and encourages him to relax, have fun, and just play!
  2. Sarah's Stressful Speech (Know Fear): Sarah, captain of the volleyball team, has to give a speech at tomorrow's pep assembly and is a complete ball of nerves. Luckily, her friend Bella has some tricks to help her face her fears.
  3. A QB's Secret to Success (The Balanced Beam): Hall of Fame Quarterback Joe Young is a guest speaker in a class at his alma mater. When another promising young athlete asks Joe about his secret to success, Joe has the perfect answer.
  4. Advantage Colton (Build Your Diamond): When Brody has his phone taken away for making poor choices to impress upper-classmen, his friend and tennis teammate Colton offers a decision-making trick that Brody would be challenged to find fault with.
  5. Puck Praise (Gratitude and Service): When former collegiate hockey champions reunite as volunteers at a charity booth, Center Bobby Howe takes the opportunity to share his appreciation with the teammates that helped him elevate his game.
  6. Good Wolf vs. Bad Wolf (Self-Talk): As high school wrestler Cohen prepares for his match against Angus, the two-time reigning State Champion, his nerves are getting the best of him. Recognizing the situation, his coach shares an old native American tale to help him get his mind right.
  7. Star Struck (Be the Next YOU!): Nora won tickets on the radio to meet her favorite R&B artist Jasmine Jaxx! She looked up to her and wanted to be her more than anyone in the world. However, when they finally meet, Jasmine encourages Nora to follow a different path instead.
  8. Eric Scores on His SATs (Self-Image): High school junior Eric struggled in school, on the basketball court, and in life. With zero expectations, he begrudgingly took the SATs at his mother's request.  When the results arrived with unimaginably high scores, Eric's view of himself changed right along with everything else in his life.
  9. Ayo Finds His Pride (Me Wheel): When lion cub Ayo is separated from his family and raised by a flock of sheep, he takes on their language, mannerisms, and mindset. Through a stroke of luck, he is reunited with his family years later who soon realizes he is a little different - a little soft. Is it too late for Ayo to realize his true potential?
  10. Jackson Picks Success (E+R=O): With the National Championship within reach, State U. Quarterback Jackson Jennings dropped back and unleashed a most memorable touchdown pass. Unfortunately, it was to the other team! With the potential of an NFL career ahead of him, that moment would test Jackson's resolve unlike any before. Would he rise to the challenge or allow that brief moment to define his career? (Couples with Lesson 15.)
  11. An Apple a Day (Root vs. Fruit): Ever since they were young, best friends Julie and Briana stood out on the soccer field. However, as the years progressed, only Briana would realize their dream of playing at a Division 1 college. As Briana prepares to leave for college, would Julie lose herself in jealousy or recognize her friend's accomplishment?
  12. Fragile Fred (Significance of Routine): Freddie Sanders, a Division 1 prospect at middle linebacker, loved the game of football and saw the path to his future paved with success. When his name was flagged for poor academics however, reality set in. Luckily, his coach had some valuable advice to share, but would it be enough to keep him on track?
  13. Peter's Peak Performance (Visualization): Three-sport athlete Peter Phelps may have bitten off more than he can chew. When he agreed to take on a small role in his high school's theatrical production featuring 1980's breakdancing, he didn't anticipate just how little time his swim team commitment would leave him to practice his breakdancing routine. Arriving home late from a swim meet with the dress rehearsal less than 24 hours away, Peter lay in bed stressing about the next day's performance. Just then, a solution danced into his mind!
  14. Snowplowin' Snowflakes (Radical Downtime): Former Olympic Figure Skating Silver Medalist Jocelyn Winters burns the candle at both ends as both the General Manager of an ice rink and coveted figure skating coach. While struggling with an aging facility and the development of her star pupil's routine, an opportunity to sell a portion of her land presents itself.  Unfortunately, she has little free time to consider the offer. Luckily, she can always count on her mom for some good advice.
  15. Tyler Trusts the Plan (Celebrating Failure): A companion to Lesson 10 - Jackson Picks Success, we switch sides and follow sophomore Safety Tyler Keller into the locker room following his game-winning interception in the championship game. Though he had made numerous great plays before, he had also dropped the ball, so to speak, on occasion.  It was his ability, however, to see the opportunity in one particular moment of failure that truly planted the seed for this incredible moment of success.
  16. Gus Gets To! (Reframing): High school teammates Gus Gehrig and Jose Clemente are about to take the baseball field in front of numerous scouts in the State Championship Game. With highly-recruited Randy Maddux on the opposing mound, the game requires nerves of steel. Realizing this, their coach offers a solution, but will Gus and Jose embrace his words?
